HHO Gas - A new source of energy based on water...

E-mail Print PDF

If you haven't heard of HHO gas, which is a source of energy using water, then take a look at this !!

HHO gas is just the result of electrolysis of water with an electrolyte added, usually baking soda, and does not separate the hydrogen from the oxygen. Various inventions have been made that makes the process extremely easy and very low cost to add to vehicles of pretty much any type. There are many statements on-line that say adding one of these simple systems improves fuel consumption by between 20% and 130%.

It does not replace the primary fuel of the engine, but basically enriches the air intake to make fuel burning much more efficient.  The great thing about it is that it really does not take major modifications of the existing engine & fuel components, it just goes in-line with a couple of vacuum hoses without any other components.  One for idle and one for normal running.

There are many variations on a common design shown on-line, which basically they use the same converts a vessel (often nothing much more than a jam or pickle jar), with a pair of electrodes inside.  A small amount of electrical power is supplied by the battery (alternator/generator when the engine is running) to the elctrodes and the electrolysis starts immediately.  The power is switched via the ignition swithch by picking off one of the exisiting switched circuits, like the radio, so that the gas is not generated when the ignition is off.

I would estimate between $30 & $100 to make a system from readily available components, but I suspect that most of the readers would have many of the parts lying around anyway.

For me, this idea is one of those that well and truly fits the 80:20 rule.  Such a simple idea gives you so much.  I'm sure there are ways to get even better improvements in the HHO generators efficiency, but at this point I'm not so sure that more technology would result in as much gain as the simple idea shown here.  Then again, I'm also sure that with the free exchange of information on the web, and an awful lot of people around the world experimenting with HHO generators, I'm sure we'll see improvements that will be just as simple.

An example of just how far you can take this idea is in the second video (below), where HHO is generated in sufficient quantities to use it for welding and cutting.  The benefits of not using acetylene and replacing it with a much cleaner alternative are quite incredible.

I hope you enjoy this look into the future, and now all I have to do is convince Harv to add one to his "S" Type  !!
